Approach track to Craig y Nos self catering farmhouse

Farm Grounds

rural track to farm

The approach to Craig y Nos Farm is via a steep farm track. The track is tarmaced in places, and rough in other places. It runs for about a quarter of a mile down from a single track road.

You'll know you are in pretty remote territory, probably one of the most secluded cottages in Wales, as you drive down your own private drive, deep into the countryside.

Take care when driving down this track - go slowly down it - especially if your vehicle sits low on the ground, as the track is bumpy and steep in places.

Civilisation in the form of the Penycae Inn
(award winning gastro pub) is only a mile back down the single track lane, in Penycae. See the three good local eateries here (including Penycae Inn - recommended)

“a lovely farmhouse”  5 of 5 stars

We were a party of 3 adults, 3 children & 2 large dogs. More than enough room for us all. The rooms are massive, the beds are all at least double (with 2 spare single matresses in the bathroom cupboard) and the gardens are endless.

I booked this for its old world charm and it did not dissapoint. Utter relaxation, the kids were never bored even without their usual tech as there is so much to do locally. I can highly recommend a circular walk from the farmhouse to Henrhyd falls which is only between 3/4 miles, (Buy the Brecon Beacons OS map) Also we went to a Red Kite feeding station which was very impressive. A lovely monkey sanctuary about a mile away is worth a visit.

The radiators are so hot but we tended to not put them on just so we could have the benefit of the log fire. There are mountains of logs for the fire outside but had to chop them up myself with an axe i found laying around which i enjoyed but was hard work!

My only gripe was that sky movies was not subscribed for as advertised * on the farmhouse website but we did not go to Wales to watch films. Also the downstairs mattress needs replacing as two people sink into the middle of it. These are minor points which did not spoil are holiday in any way.

We will definitely return here next year and would recommend to anybody.

Stayed November 2012, travelled with family

*There should be Sky Freeview but the Movies package was not continued and the website was not updated fast enough. The mattress in the ground floor room has had no complaints since, so must have been changed since this review!
